MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC HVAC'S NEW
INVERTER REDEFINES HEAT PUMP HEATING CAPACITY
technology offers tremendous heating capacity
at incredibly low temperatures, down to minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit
SUWANEE, Ga., January 17, 2008 - Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Advanced Products Division, Suwanee, Ga., has introduced its new Hyper-heating INVERTER (H2i™) technology for select Mr. Slim® split-ductless and CITY MULTI® VRFZ systems, a Mitsubishi Electric HVAC exclusive.
"Mitsubishi Electric HVAC's patent-pending flash technology allows the new H2i outdoor units to operate at 100 percent of rated heating capacity at 5 degrees Fahrenheit," says Meredith Emmerich, manager of application support, Mitsubishi Electric HVAC. "At minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit, the system operates at 87 percent of rated heating capacity; and at minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit, the system operates at 70 percent of rated heating capacity."
The patent-pending flash process cools the compressor which allows for higher compressor speeds at lower temperatures without overheating. This process also increases the mass flow rate in the system to provide phenomenal heating performance at low temperatures.
According to Emmerich, traditional heat pumps do not operate at such low temperatures with full capacity compared to the new H2i outdoor unit. H2i systems employ technology that re-collects heat energy that is normally wasted in the flash process at the outdoor coil. This process helps the H2i systems overcome issues commonly associated with conventional heat pumps such as decreases in low-side pressure, refrigerant mass flow rate and operational capacity. "The INVERTER-driven compressor in the H2i outdoor unit varies its speed to precisely match the zone load requirements for year-round comfort and effective energy usage," says Emmerich.
The new H2i systems are available in select Mr. Slim split-ductless and CITY MULTI VRFZ models.
The Mr. Slim H2i P-Series outdoor heat pump has a 36,000 BTU/h cooling capacity and 38,000 Btu/h heating capacity. The sleek outdoor unit connects to either the P-Series wall-mounted or ceiling-recessed cassette indoor units, which allows added versatility within applications. The PUZ-HA36NHA unit operates quietly at 51 dB(A) in cooling and 55 dB(A) in heating. In addition, twinning indoor units is possible for the same zone with the H2i outdoor unit by connecting two PKA-A18 indoor units or two PLA-A18 indoor units for maximizing conditioned air distribution in the zone.
In a 2006 field evaluation at a Lake Mills, Wis., church, the Mr. Slim H2i system delivered a discharge temperature of 123 degrees Fahrenheit when the outdoor temperature was just 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The indoor temperature at the time was a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
The CITY MULTI VRFZ H2i PUHY-HP-THMU Y-Series outdoor heat pump is available in two capacities, six- and eight-ton or manifolded for 12 and 16 tons. Each system provides distributed capacity to multiple indoor units. CITY MULTI VRFZ H2i systems can connect up to 24 indoor units. The H2i Y-Series outdoor units feature a compact, space-saving design that equates to easier transportation and installation.
Both the Mr. Slim and CITY MULTI H2i systems are available for order now. For more information about the new H2i technology or Mr. Slim and CITY MULTI systems, please visit www.mehvac.com.
